The Golden Pheasant Inn is situated on the eastern boundary of Tinicum township in a section of Bucks County which was called Manor of Highlands. In 1699, the 7,500 acres were purchased from William Penn by the London Company.
With the completion of the northern leg of the Delaware Canal in 1832, oases sprang up along the route to serve the canal men on their runs from Easton to Bristol. |
|
Among these was The Delaware House built in 1857, where bargemen could stop for a change of mules, beers, salt cakes and a bed for the night. Built of local fieldstone, the inn features wood-burning fire-places, exposed stone walls, recessed windows, beamed ceilings and an original tap room.

Railroads, trucking and oil heating all contributed to the abandonment of the canal in 1931. The tavern which faced the now empty canal, suffered hard times until 1967 when it was purchased by Ralph Schneider, who named it the Golden Pheasant Inn. |
|
In 1986, the Faures welcomed the opportunity to purchase the inn. Barbara, with a wonderful decorative touch, refurbished the rooms to the inn's original 1850s period style.

Through the years, the Faure's daughters Briar, Brooks, Brittany, Blaise, and Blake have served in the restaurant. Today their oldest children are grown. Their daughter, Blake, and cocker spaniel, Elle, remain at home. |

Often, Chef Faure travels to Maryland for crabmeat and to Philadelphia for the freshest ingredients while Barbara is a favorite of local antique dealers. Celebrating its eighteenth anniversary this year, the Golden Pheasant Inn remains a Bucks County gem. |
